Meran 2000 Ski Area

The family ski area above the spa town of Merano

Situated on the high plateau above the spa town of Merano, this ski area offers a total of 40 kilometres of ski runs and South Tyrol’s first mountain coaster, which is open all year round.

The hiking and family skiing area of Merano 2000 offers 40 kilometres of mostly intermediate slopes, and is reachable in just a few minutes from town on the new Merano 2000 Cable Car. A newly built area called Outdoor Kids Campoffers a ski kindergarten, ski school, magic carpet lifts, snow tube run and plenty of space for sledding and frolicking.

This much-loved ski area just outside of Merano also offers night sledding on its groomed, 3-km-long sled run. The Alpin Bob toboggan track rises to heights of 12 metres above the ground. Merano 2000 is an ideal ski area for anyone who wants to return to a city atmosphere after a day spent on the slopes and round off the evening with a restaurant meal or a visit to the Terme Merano baths and spa complex.

Right from the slopes to the Christmas market
The family-friendly Merano 2000 Ski Area is located just on the doorstep of the spa resort town of Merano. So after an action-packed winter day with the whole family, it’s a snap to reach one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in the Alps. Meraner Advent season in the heart of the old town begins on 27 November with the opening of the traditional Merano Christmas Market on the promenade.

The approximately 3-metre long sledding trail at Merano 2000 Ski Area begins right at the summit station at Piffing: there is thus little effort involved in reaching the starting point. The trail’s initial steep curves are especially thrilling and require deft manoeuvres - even from experienced sledders. In addition to the natural sledding trail from Piffing to Falzeben, Merano 2000 Ski Area offers sledding fans the Alpine Bob toboggan rail, open the whole year round.

The Alpine Bob is likewise located in the immediate vicinity of the cable car summit station. A ride on the toboggan rail is a real adrenalin rush: in some sections, the two-seater ride runs 12 metres above the ground.

    Note:
Children between 3 and 9 years old ride the Alpine Bob free, but must be accompanied by a person more than 16 years old. Children over the age of 10 may ride without an adult.

    Run Data:
Length of Uphill Track: around 350 m
Length of Downhill Track: around 1,100 m
    Altitude Differential: around 150 m
    Uphill Ride: 4 - 5 minutes
    Downhill Ride: 3 - 5 minutes

The Merano 2000 Cable Car is the ideal lift for families and skiers who want to get to the slopes quickly: the new high-tech cabin whisks up to 120 passengers per trip up to the plateau above the spa resort town of Merano in just a few minutes. Here, valley station queues are a thing of the past. There is a large parking area directly adjacent to the valley station, which makes accessing the cable car easy and convenient - something families in particular will appreciate.

Both the valley station and the summit station are highlights of the cutting-edge Merano 2000 Cable Car. In addition to amenities such as wind protection and climatic cladding for the ski rental service and ticket counter that are directly adjacent, the valley station offers family-friendly restrooms and warming rooms.

The summit station is extremely functional. The lower level houses the technical equipment. The ticket windows, waiting areas, and restrooms are located on the ground level. Upstairs, the glassed-in Bistro offers magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. There is also a custom-purposed, family-friendly space in which skiers can enjoy food they have brought themselves as well as a spacious panoramic terrace for relaxing and enjoying the warm winter sun.

The Outdoor Kids Camp is Merano 2000 Ski Area’s latest attraction. In winter, the horseshoe slalom at the Outdoor Kids Camp is a great place for children to try out skiing for the very first time. There are three magic carpets, a bunny slope and wide practice runs for beginners; a small sledding run rounds out the offering. Kids between 3 and 12 years old will find plenty of space here to play, do some sledding, or just romp in the snow.

Merano 2000 Ski School, located within the Kinderland, makes for a perfect opportunity for miniature ski bunnies to try out their first moves on skis under the watchful eye of certified instructors.
