Plan (Pfelders) Ski Area

The soft mobile ski area in Val Passiria (Passeiertal)

At the romantic high Alpine ski area of Plan, your lodging is just minutes away from the nearest ski lift. Here, fun on the slopes begins right outside the door.

Plan, located at the back of Val Passiria, is a romantic Alpine village with a sustainable ski area that focuses on protecting the resources of the environment. Thus, all accommodations - from spa hotels to apartments - are located near a ski lift. Since the area is vehicle free, kids can frolic undisturbed outdoors and on the slopes, and try out their first turns on a snowboard or on skis. At night, Plan offers cosy evenings at mountain lodges, night skiing, and torchlit walks.

There is also a natural ice rink in Plan - just like in the old days. Trails, which are floodlit at night as well, draw cross-country skiers up into the high Alpine landscape; beyond, there is a sledding trail that runs for 3.5 km. Ice climbers will have found their Mecca at Rabenstein, where an ice tower awaits the truly courageous. Plan is also known for its snow-blanketed hiking trails and horse-drawn sleigh rides through white winter forests. This romantic Alpine village is nothing less than perfect for holidaymakers, especially families.

Plan, the holiday destination for soft mobility at the far end of Val Passiria

The mountain village of Plan (Pfelders) has been a soft-mobility holiday destination since 2007. There is no automobile traffic going through the village: only residents and guests at hotels and other accommodations are permitted to drive beyond the entrance to the village. A small train, called the Dorfexpress, runs through the village itself: it goes through the village centre at regular intervals, carrying nature enthusiasts from the entrance to the village into the centre and directly to the ski slopes. Anyone staying at the ski area of Plan itself requires no more than three minutes of travel time from their place of lodging to the lifts.

Plan’s soft mobility programme in winter:
The Dorfexpress and a CityBus offer fast and convenient transfers
The Grünboden-Express cable car and other lifts take skiers directly up the mountain to have fun on the slopes
Winter horseback riding and horse-drawn sleigh rides through the village and to the Lazinser alpine farm.

South Tyrol is home to the Haflinger horse. For centuries, this sturdy workhorse has been bred in small groups on South Tyrol’s farms. Steinerhof, a certified horse farm in the traffic-free village of Plan, offers rides in sleighs and carriages drawn by the popular Haflinger horses daily. A nighttime sleigh ride, illuminated by torches, from the parking area on the outskirts of Plan and running through the snowy winter woods to the Lazinser farm is an experience you’ll never forget. The farm also offers private riding lessons and half-day or full-day trail rides through the snow-blanketed countryside.
