Solda (Sulden) Ski Area

Ploughing through virgin snow or a summit descent through deep snow: these pleasures are the be all and end all for freeriders, backcountry skiers, and snowboarders. At the glacial Solda Ski Area, freeriding enthusiasts will find challenging off-piste runs that are perfectly suited to them. All of the off-piste runs are accessible via the lifts in Solda; short additional ascents are required in between. Most of the free-terrain options are advanced runs. A highlight for the freeriding scene is the deep-snow run leading all the way from Punta Beltovo (Schöntaufspitze) Peak at an elevation of 3,250 metres to the valley station at 1,900 metres.

The groomed runs of the glacial ski area also have plenty to offer. Among the best known are the panoramic Gran Zebru, the ungroomed Hochleiten downhill run, and the challengingRosim slope.

Skiing is something that is best learned sooner rather than later. So even pint-sized skiers can practise their carving under the watchful eye of the experienced caregivers of the ski kindergarten at Solda Ski School. A member of the Specialised Children's Ski Schools of South Tyrol, Yeti Club has been awarded the Gold Seal of Approval by the Südtiroler Skischulen (South Tyrolean Ski Schools) association. Criteria for the designation include up-to-date ski lessons, a specially purposed ski kindergarten with playground in the snow, modern lifts, and special learning materials. The mascot Yeti accompanies the children in all of their snow activities, leading them through their day and providing assistance.

Ski mountaineering enthusiasts will find plenty of options at the glacial Solda Ski Area: there are tours through forests and desolate countryside to be enjoyed and free descents through deep snow to be mastered. Fans of the sport will find ideal conditions at Solda, especially during the spring.

The Suldenspitze Peak tour, which reaches an elevation of 3,376 metres, is particularly noteworthy. The tour takes about 3 ½ hours and requires about 800 metres of altitude differential to be covered. At the summit, passionate ski mountaineers are rewarded with a magnificent view over the Alps, Monte Cevedale, and Königsspitze Peak.
