Italy's longest sled run: 10 km from Monte Cavallo to Vipiteno (Sterzing)

The sledging trail at Monte Cavallo runs nearly 10 kilometres, with a maximum gradient of 32 percent, and leads down to the little town of Vipiteno.

In 2011, the German Automobile Club (ADAC) selected this trail, which is Italy’s longest floodlit run, in its international track tests as the best sled run in German-speaking Europe. The ADAC gave the brightly lit sled run high marks for excellent infrastructure and many strong points such as having a short access route, being safe, and the excellent condition of the course. Sleds rentals are available at the valley station of the cable car and at the ski area’s rental service. A day pass to Monte Cavallo is valid on the sled run at night.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the cabin lift carries sledging enthusiasts up to the starting point of the run at Monte Cavallo from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. On these evenings, floodlights illuminate the sled run until midnight.

The 450-metre-long sledging run at Plan ski area begins just past the arrival point of the Gampe lift and runs directly to Plan, parallel to the ski run.

From the upper station at Bergkastel (2,200 metres), an 8-km toboggan run winds down the mountain into the valley—this is winter fun for the whole family. You start right at the Bergkastel lift upper station, at 2,200 metres above sea level. Incidentally, Nauders is the first resort to be awarded the Tiroler Toboggan Seal of Quality for two toboggan runs.
