Belpiano (Schöneben) – Malga S. Valentino (Haideralm) Ski Area

The family-friendly ski area in Val Venosta (Vinschgau)

At Resia (Reschen), near the tri-border area where South Tyrol, North Tyrol and the Engadine meet, you’ll find the sun-drenched resort of Belpiano-Malga S. Valentino, one of South Tyrol’s most popular family ski areas.

Belpiano-Malga S. Valentino means “beautiful plain” in Italian, and the ski area really lives up to its name. With 14 lifts, snow coverage well into spring, and nice broad runs, Belpiano-Malga S. Valentino offers a wide array of options to families and leisure skiers. Beginners and experts alike can practice their carving on well-groomed runs, without wasting a lot of time in queues. In addition, the Belpiano-Malga S. Valentino family ski area is well adapted to the needs of children: there is a specialised ski school and even a ski kindergarten with Snow Tubing and children's park.

Plenty of challenges await snowboarders and freestylers at Belpiano-Malga S. Valentino’s professional snow park and Funslope; cross-country skiers and winter hikers will love the well-groomed trails running through this unique natural landscape. Even avid backcountry skiers don’t come up short: Belpiano-Malga S. Valentino offers guided ski tours through the mountains. At nearby Lago di Resia (Reschensee) Lake there are great opportunities for ice skating, kiting and ice sailing.

Schönis Kinderland offers loads of fun, new playground equipment and pedagogically sound learning programmes. Here, budding skiers can learn the fun way under the expert guidance of the instructors and counsellors of Reschen Ski School.

Lago di Resia Lake, in the upper Venosta (Vinschgau) Valley offers a wide range of winter sports options for the young - and the young at heart. In addition to classic skating, the lake is well known for in-vogue sports such as snow kiting and ice yachting. Lago di Resia freezes over completely every year and has great wind. The lake thus offers passionate kiters and ice yachting enthusiasts the ice conditions necessary to do these sports. When the celebrated Vinschger Wind blows strongly into the sails, the whole Lago di Resia is full of brightly coloured ice yachts. This is fun not only for those who love to do ice sports, but also for the many spectators and general public. There are kite surfing lessons on offer at Lago di Resia from May to September and snow kiting lessons from December to March.

Even the kiting elite appreciates Lago di Resia. Every year in January, kiters come from all over the world for the Snowkite European Championship. Participants from several European countries compete in the racing and freestyle disciplines, delighting the crowds with their daredevil jumps. In 2013, the Snowkite European Championship will once again be held at Lago di Resia. Expected date: 18 to 20 January.
